We never dreamed we'd find a winter hardy form of the typically tropical fern, Adiantum raddianum, but in 2006, we acquired spores from the late plant explorers Rod and Rachel Saunders, who had collected them at 4,500' in the mountains near Barberton in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The tiny, finely-textured pinnae give a tropical feel to this woodland gem, forming a tight 1' tall x 1' wide deciduous clump (evergreen in milder climates). We are pleased to share this 2021 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction that we've enjoyed in our woodland garden since 2007. If you're north of Zone 7b, you'll enjoy it indoors as a house plant.
