It's been years since we offered any of the threadleaf coreopsis selections due to the overwintering issues we encountered when they were hybridized with the annual Coreopsis tinctoria. It's taken years to reach the same level of flower color when only using the North American (Connecticut south to Florida) native Coreopsis verticillata, but that moment has arrived. Coreopsis 'Red Hot Vanilla' has thrived in our trials the past three years, so we are thrilled to make it available. The clumps of 20" tall stalks of thread-like foliage are topped, starting for us in mid-June with 1" pale yellow flowers with a bright red central ring, which surrounds the orange disc of pollen. Coreopsis verticillata performs best in average to dry, well-drained soils. When flowering slows, plants can be cut to the ground for a good floral reflush.
