Microsorum, an evergreen perennial, grows from creeping rhizomes, producing blade--like green foliage which, depending on the species, can be singular or pinnate (feather-like). If you own an aquarium you are probably familiar with Microsorum pteropus or Java fern, a popular addition to most fish tanks.

More Information About Microsorum

Most species in the genus Microsorum are native to China, Malaysia, Madagascar, India and parts of tropical Africa where they grow as epiphytes (a plant that grows on another plant) or lithophytes (a plant that grows on rocks or in crevasses) in damp, shady areas...which makes them great plants for moist soil in your garden. Since microsorum is not hardy for many gardeners, it can be enjoyed as an easy-to-grow houseplant.
