Callirhoe bushii is one of the lesser known members of the genus, hailing from only a few dozen sites in the Midwest, near the border of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. In the wild, Callirhoe bushii is becoming threatened by development and the reduction in the region's natural fire ecology. In the wild, Bush's wine cups can be found in limestone glades and open rocky woodlands, which is a hint that it is exceedingly drought tolerant and likes really well-drained soils. The widely-lobed leaves sparsely clothe the mass of stems, which form a 2' tall x 4' wide mass. The plants are topped with 2" wide red flowers, starting for us in early June and continuing through much of the summer.
