Calibrachoa is a petunia relative in the Solanaceae family that has been rapidly gaining in popularity over the last 20 years as an annual. We have discovered though trials that several calibrachoa are winter hardy perennials if planted in the right spot. Calibrachoa plants feature quarter-sized, butterfly-attracting flowers produced by the thousands in bright, saturated, eye-grabbing colors (who doesn't like to have their eyes grabbed?). Calibrachoa attracts hummingbirds and is low maintenance too...an all around great flowering perennial.

More Information About Calibrachoa

Calibrachoa prefer full sun, well-drained soil, and plenty of compost. Established plants are drought tolerant, but flower much better with regular watering. Winter drainage is critical...the number one killer of Calibrachoa is winter root rot. Calibrachoa do not require any deadheading, which is a relief since the plant produces so many flowers. If they start to grow lanky, just give your Calibrachoa a quick hair cut with some pruning shears and they will fill in with new branches.

Calibrachoa are great garden companions that bring a splash of color to the summer garden. Try putting them in a container, hanging basket, planter box or on a hill so they can spill over. Calibrachoa look great when grown in large drifts or when paired with upright plants such as chlorophytum, colocasia, or pennisetum. When you are ready to buy calibrachoa for your perennial garden, we hope you'll check out our list of calibrachoa for sale.
