This Carribean native is common as a liriope border substitute throughout southern Florida and Mexico. The clumps of small, glossy green leaves flower virtually all summer for us with half-dollar-sized white flowers that are nicely flushed pink. In colder climates, Z. insularum makes a great container plant for balconies and decks, although it did survive 9 degrees F in the winter of 1999/2000.
