    This stunning windmill palm was just named in 1995 after palm experts Gibbons and Spanner visited the original site and determined that it had been incorrectly identified in 1915 as T. martianus. T. princeps occurs at 5,000' elevation on steep marble cliffs in a subtropical monsoonal rainforest of northwestern China, near the border with Burma (Myanmar) and Tibet. The 30' tall plants are topped with very finely cut fronds, whose leaf backs are waxy white. We have not yet planted these outdoors, so we have no hardiness data...for experimental gardeners only.
