(syn: T. sikkimensis) This recently discovered heat-tolerant Himalayan palm (from 7500' elevation) boasts very large, nearly circular leaves (according to palm gurus, Gibbons and Spanner). Developing a trunk like a typical windmill palm with age, the leaves cluster near the top of the smooth trunk. We've had this in the ground since 2000 and while the leaves burn off every year, the trunk has been hardy into the upper single digits F. This is an exciting opportunity for hardy palm enthusiasts to add to their collection. It is always best to protect the trunks and young leaves of young palms in colder climates for the first few years.
