The southeast US is not usually kind on hairy white things, but sideritis has been a pleasant surprise. This unusual member of the mint family makes a tight, 1' tall x 1.5' mound of evergreen silvery foliage, topped in midspring with bizarre, 30" tall spikes of yellow flowers. Seeing our plant in the garden always sends folks looking to see what other plant is hiding beneath the foliage to produce these strange flowers. Being from the Mediterranean, dry summers and well-drained soils are very important.
