Saururus cernuus is a US native perennial, found in swampy bogs from Canada south to Texas and, although quite beautiful, it can an aggressive spreader. I was thrilled to receive this much more controlled, variegated form, from our friend, naturalist Jesse Perry, who discovered it Hertford, NC. We were pleased to subsequently make Saururus cernus 'Hertford Streaker', a 2014 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction. It's right at home in moist soils, where it interweaves nicely with other moist soil lovers like hosta and many ferns. The 2' tall stalks of new foliage emerge creamy white, with a central green pattern. Because of the reduction in leaf chlorophyll, full sun will cause leaf scorch. In mid-June (NC), the stalks are topped with white antennae-like flower spikes. We are pleased to once again off this amazing perennial.
