We are very excited to be able to offer seed from one of the farthest inland stands of Sabal palmetto. Growing in Rock Hill, SC (just south of Charlotte NC), these trees were planted in the 1950's. According to palm collector/mystery novelist Tamar Myers only three survived. Not only did they survive the record temperature of -8 degrees F, but these Sabal palmettos are still growing well and even seeding around the neighborhood. Usually seed for a cold hardy stand will impart some of it's hardiness to the offspring. Our plants which have been in the garden since 2000 are showing about 1' of trunk.
