The mere existence of Sabal louisiana has been debated now for more than a century. In Louisiana, there are several populations of very large Sabal minor looking plants to 10-12' tall in height... compared to typical S. minor with no above ground trunk. Some taxonomists say that S. louisiana is nothing more than a mature or eco-typical variation of S. minor, while others defiantly insist on a new species. We will let you decide.
