Honey, I shrunk the amaryllis! This cute little Chilean species is for those who value small plants that they can enjoy in great detail...the sophisticated set. Showing no sign of life until midsummer, R. pratensis flower stalks emerge from nowhere, like a lycoris. Atop the 8" stalk are two 1" wide flared star-shaped flowers of peachy apricot (RHS 180D). After the flower departs, the narrow basal foliage emerges and lasts until the following spring. Hot, dry soils are best and be sure to mark the bulb before it goes dormant.
