Pteris actiniopteris 'Silver Illusion' is a Plant Delights Nursery introduction of a 2005 Hans Hansen fern collection in Sichuan, China. In the wild, Pteris actiniopteris grows almost exclusively as a lithophyte (on rocks). In the garden, Pteris actiniopteris makes a small 10" tall x 15" wide clump of linear pewtery silver foliage...unlike any fern you've seen before. Pteris 'Silver Illusion' is not one of the easiest ferns we've ever tried to grow, so it should be avoided by beginning gardeners. Being a lithophyte, good drainage is essential as is planting it on an incline.
