According to the books, this is a rare and difficult-to-grow primrose...we disagree. In fact, if you've got a rich woodland soil, it's quite easy. The round, corrugated, 3" wide un-primula-like leaves form a stoloniferous mat in the woodland garden. In late spring, the large, bright pink flowers, atop 6" stems hover just above the foliage. A well-grown patch is thick enough to choke out many unwanted weeds. The variety shikokiana is a form whose stems and leaves are covered with small white hairs. Primula kisoana is not particularly fond of long, hot summer days when cool summer nights are not available.
