Polgonatum hirtum is considered an invalid name for Polygonatum latifolium, so why is this form we grow so different from other forms of the species? This splendid Solomon's seal is from our plant exploring friends at Crug Farm in Wales. Polygonatum hirtum forms upright 15" tall stalks, clothed with very dark green, nearly round, 2.5" wide leaves. The stalks are adorned with small white flowers in mid-April (NC). Polygonatum hirtum forms an easy-to-grow 2' wide patch in five years.
