    (Dysosma versipellis) This stunning Chinese mayapple resembles our native mayapple in form, but remains up throughout the summer and actually puts on a bit of growth in the early fall. The glossy green leaves that sit above the grey-green stems are deeply lobed. The bright red purple flower is held just underneath the leaves in early spring...a great specimen plant in the woodland garden. In extremely hot summers, you may experience a short summer dormancy period.
