Platycodon grandiflorus 'Sentimental Blue' is a dwarf, floriferous strain of the monotypic genus, Platycodon...first cousin to the better known Campanula. The easy-to-grow Platycodon 'Sentimental Blue' tops out at 1' tall, compared to the typical 2'+ size. Platycodon starts flowering for us in June and continues into September with an abundance of quarter-size, balloon-shaped, lavender-blue buds which open to five-petalled, star-shaped flowers. The roots of Platycodon grandiflorus have a long medicinal history as a treatment for bronchitis, asthma, the common cold, diabetes, tuberculosis, to lower cholesterol, and as an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-allergy, and anti-cancer treatment. Don't be without a platycodon in your medicine cabinet...we mean, garden.
