We are very excited to introduce what has been one of the best groundcover phlox in our trials. In 1987, Virginia plantsman Don Humphrey of Green Spring Park made crosses of P. divaricata x P. amoena. The result was an amazing phlox that Don named P. 'Green Spring'. In three years, each clump forms a 3' wide mass of dazzling glossy green foliage that is topped starting in early April with 6" spikes of dense lavender pink flowers. We value this both for the flowers as well as the superb evergreen foliage. After flowering, cut the old stalks to the ground to rejuvenate the foliage. Unlike most P. divaricata, P. 'Green Spring' has thrived in bright full sun.
