(aka: P. Tift17) Pennisetum 'Princess Caroline' is the latest in a series of ornamental grasses from the plant breeding program of Dr. Wayne Hanna at the University of Georgia. This tri-specific cross of Pennisetum glaucum, Pennisetum purpureum, and Pennisetum squamulatum makes a 3' tall x 4' wide elegant mound of wide, dark purple foliage, named after one of Wayne's granddaughters. In climates where frost occurs, flowers would be rare, so grow this for the foliage. The rich dark purple color and bold texture make Pennisetum 'Princess Caroline' a superb accent for summer color.
