This unique sun fern has been a real star in our rock garden. The 6", stiffly upright fronds are adorned with rigid, glaucous blue-green leaves. P. wrightiana prefers well-drained neutral-to-alkaline soils with only occasional moisture once established. In the wild, P. wrightiana are almost always found at the base of a large rock, where moisture can be stored during times of extreme drought. Our offering is grown from our original spore collections in Jeff Davis Co., Texas, at 5,000' elevation from a form that was slightly smaller and more compact than normal. This is not the easiest fern to cultivate and should be reserved for more experienced gardeners who like to experiment.
