(syn: Iris dichotoma) Pardanthopsis dichotoma is a wonderful, and very easy to grow purple flowered nocturnal irid, related in appearance to the common blackberry lily, Belamcanda. The upright fans of flat, light green foliage are topped, starting for us in mid-July with 4' tall terminal bouquets of charming medium blue-purple flowers with dramatic dark purple flecks. The flowers are followed by seed pods resembling blackberries when they burst open...great in the mixed perennial border. Taxonomists keep moving vesper iris back and forth between the genus Iris and Pardanthopsis.
