We can't grow many Australian/New Zealand plants, but Ozothamnus 'Western Hills' (an aster relative) is a wonderful exception. This plant started its life as a hybrid between Ozothamnus leptophylla and Ozothamnus rosmarinifolius. Ozothamnus 'Western Hills' makes a 3' tall x 4' wide mound of woody stems covered in tiny, olive-green, scale-like leaves which are silver underneath, presenting a silver appearance in the garden. The foliage is topped with clusters of insignificant grey flowers in June. This fascinating plant has fared extraordinarily well in our hot and humid summers.
