(aka: Oxalis purpurea 'Ken Aslet') Oxalis 'Ken Aslet' is a selection of the South African (Bokkeveld Escarpment to the Western Karoo) Oxalis melanosticta, named after retired RHS Wisley head gardener, Ken Aslet. This lovely glaucous, velvety-leaf oxalis emerges for us in early April, and forms tight rosettes of foliage, that are eventually topped with large yellow flowers, starting for us in mid-November. We have grown this for more than a decade and have not observed any aggressive tendencies such as reseeding or running. Because it is native to very dry rocky mountain slopes, we have been most successful growing this where the drainage is very good, in both sun and part sun.
