Originally from Japan (without a cultivar name), via the NCSU Arboretum, comes this new clump-forming introduction of what we think might be O. japonicus var. caespitosus... a designer mondo grass. The very narrow, green foliage (about 1/2 the width of typical mondo grass) is vertically streaked with gold. Occasionally an all-green leaf will be found, as will a solid gold one... it changes its mind about as much as some Washington politicians.
