Here is a really wierd one. This unusual member of the onion family grows from a bulb that remains dormant until mid-June. Once the bulb breaks dormancy, expect the long, lax, blue-green onion like foliage to emerge and look rather undistinguished. So, you are probably wondering why you should buy this bulb. Well in late summer or early fall, a flowering stalk emerges that is simply delightful. The 3-4' tall spike is topped with Queen Anne's Lace-like heads. Each head is composed of exquisite silver dollar-sized tuberose-fragranced flowers that open at night to perfume the garden. The flowering of Milla magnifica is certainly one the most highly ranked of yearly gardening events. Good drainage is important for best performance.
