Lycoris x rosea 'Red Sunset' is a Phil Adams cross of Lycoris sprengeri 'Hayward' x Lycoris radiata that was subsequently backcrossed again with Lycoris radiata. Lycoris 'Red Sunset' produces a 2' tall bronze stalk, topped with spidery-petaled, rosy red flowers, lightly tipped in dark blue. For us, the flower stalks arise from bare ground, starting in early August (NC). After flowering, the narrow, liriope-like foliage emerges in fall and persists until spring.
