(aka: Lycoris x jacksoniana Caldwell's rose with blue tips) 2017 was the first commercial release of Lycoris x rosea 'Flash Dance', a recently named hybrid by Plant Delights Nursery from the late Sam Caldwell, who crossed Lycoris radiata v. pumila with Lycoris sprengeri 'Hayward'. The 18" tall stalks emerge for us around August 25, topped with up to 10 black-red buds that open to brilliant red flowers, each petal tip dipped in blue dye. The leaves on this fertile hybrid emerge for us in early October, so to ensure better flowering north of Zone 8, plant this in open shade so the winter growing, food-producing foliage isn't damaged.
