(aka: Lycoris carnea, Lycoris x elsiae) Lycoris x albiflora 'Dorman' is an heirloom surprise lily, occasionally passed around between Gulf Coast gardening friends as Lycoris x elsiae. Lycoris x albiflora 'Dorman' flowers in September with 15" tall, "nekkid," shiny black stalks that are topped with creamy-white, spidery flowers. Each petal is highlighted by a peach midrib. After the flowers fade, the small clumps of narrow, green, evergreen leaves emerge in October and persist until May. Lycoris x albiflora 'Dorman' is a cross of Lycoris radiata x Lycoris aurea (aka: traubii). Our plants are from Greg Grant, who got them from the late Caroline Dorman, who got them from the late lycoris breeder, Sam Caldwell. Don't you be late in ordering yours.
