    This is the purple flowered member of the tetraploid (that's plants on steroids to lay folks) hybrid cardinal flowers from Germany's Benary seed company is another great addition to our palette of summer and fall color. Though far from blue (color-blindness may be a Germanic trait after all), the rich bluish purple flowers (RHS 89A) are held atop the 3' stalks.
