This hybrid (L. cardinalis x L. siphilitica) comes from our friend and NC resident-lobelia-nut, Thurman Maness. Thurman considers this 1989 introduction to be his finest hybrid... and you don't disagree with Thurman. The basal rosettes give rise to 3' tall flower stems, topped with velvety ruby-colored flowers (RHS 61A) from late summer into early fall... BREATHTAKING!
