Lilium speciosum 'Fourth of July' is an incredibly heat-tolerant form of the beautiful Lilium speciosum that we picked up when visiting plantsman Bobby Green in Southern Alabama. While typical Lilium speciosum thrives in colder climates, it dislikes the heat and humidity of the deep southeast US, but Lilium speciosum 'Fourth of July' thrives in this region. Each sturdy 6' tall stalk opens for us in mid-July, showcasing 12-14, outfacing, pendant flowers with a cosmetic-counter fragrance. Each flower is a frilly reddish-pink, highlighted by a dramatic white border, white throat, and freckled with large dark red spots. If you wear fluorescent lipstick and like your plants a little on the tacky side, you're sure to love this summer highlight in your garden.
