Leucophyllum frutescens 'Silver Spirit' is a 2026 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a Patrick McMillan collection of the Southwest (Texas, Arizona, Utah) native, Texas barometer bush. For decades, we've searched for a clone that would tolerate our cold winters and wet summers, and we've finally found success with this selection from Uvalde County, Texas. Our five year-old plants of this stunning small evergreen shrub are now 5' tall x 3' wide. The dense stems are clothed in small silver leaves. After summer rains, the branches burst forth with a brilliant show of lavender flowers. Leucophyllums are dryland natives, so a very well-drained soil is critical. Although they prefer alkaline soils, our plants have fared well in our amended loam at a pH of 6.2.
