This new hardy lantana was discovered in 1996 as a branch mutation on the cold hardy Lantana 'Ham and Eggs' by James Covington of Mississippi. The flowers open bright golden yellow (RHS 14A) surrounding a central pattern of orange buds. As the flowers age, the old flowers change to a colorful pattern of orange, red, and pink. As with the parent, L. 'Sonrise' is sterile as long as it is not tempted by other fertile cultivars. We have included this cultivar in our long-term lantana hardiness trials.
