Ismene 'Sulphur Queen'

(aka: Hymenocallis 'Sulphur Queen') This easy-to-grow bi-generic hybrid of Hymenocallis narcissiflora and the Peruvian native Ismene amancaes is one of the most stunning flowers in our summer garden. Here, it has prospered for many, many years (unlike many of the high altitude pure Andean species of Ismene). The 18" long, green strap-shaped leaves emerge from the underground bulb in late spring. In July, each flowering stalk emerges from the base and opens at 18" in height to reveal 2-3 large trumpet-shaped, soft yellow flowers highlighted with a large, dark green star-pattern in the center.
