For 2024, we are pleased to release the first named spider lily hybrid from the late Hymenocallis breeder, Vic Lambou. Hymenocallis 'Wetmax' is Vic's selection from his cross of two North American (Mexico) species, the narrow-leaf Hymenocallis maximilliani and the wide-leaf Hymenocallis imperialis. The result is a vigorous hybrid with intermediate width leaves that remain evergreen until temperature drop below 20 degrees F. The tightly-offsetting clumps are topped, starting for us in late June with 30" tall stalks of fragrant, long-petalled white flowers. Average soil moisture is fine, since both parents are not aquatic.
