Hymenocallis acutifolia 'Thad Howard' is a 2024 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of the little known Mexican native spider lily, collected and shared by the late Texas bulb guru, Dr. Thad Howard. For us, it forms an imposing clump of 40" long, glossy green leaves. Starting for us in June, the clump is topped for a couple of months with foliage-topping stalks of large, white, nocturnally-opening, sweetly-fragrant flowers. In warm winter climates, it remains evergreen, but for us, goes nicely dormant at the onset of hard frosts. They thrive in slightly to average moisture soils. Our plants have been in the ground since 2003, without any issues with winter cold.
