We are pleased to offer this amazing tri-generic bulb hybrid from Texas breeder, Dr. Dave Lehmiller. Dave accomplished something rarely done outside of orchids, by crossing a rain lily (zephyranthes) with an Aztec lily (sprekelia) and an amaryllis (hippeastrum). xHowardara 'Riley Kate' has the appearance of an 8" tall screaming red rain lily. We've grown it in the open garden since 2015, enduring 7 degrees F, but have also found it happy in container culture. xHowardara 'Riley Kate' offsets slowly, and as you can imagine, is virtually sterile. xHowardara is named to honor the late Texas-based bulb explorer, Thad Howard. In 2015, when Dave first released the first offsets, we paid $1000 per bulb, so we are thrilled to now be able to share this amazing plant with a few others. As you can imagine, quantities are very limited and are likely to go quickly.
