Hippeastrum 'Miss Red'

Over the last few years, there seems to have been a mix-up. A hippeastrum plant that was tissue-cultured and sold as the old hybrid Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii' was not the correct cultivar. As best we can tell, virtually everything sold since 2000 as Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii' is incorrect. It's not that the imposter is a bad plant, just not the correct one. We thought we'd partially solve the problem by naming the imposter Hippeastrum 'Miss Red', which is obviously what happened with the original tag. The wide, glossy, green leaves are topped in late April (NC) with 20" spikes ending in large, pure red flowers. Hippeastrum 'Miss Red' multiplies rapidly, so I hope you have plenty of friends with whom to share.
