    This Texas-native barrel cactus has proven to be reliably hardy in our trials, so we are offering plants grown from seed that we collected in Kinney Co., Texas in 2001. The 1' wide barrels with downward-curving spines are topped, in late spring, with yellow helichrysum-like flowers. The plant from which we gathered the seed was growing in a dry, rocky, alkaline site, but the offspring have been equally as happy in our amended acidic clay.
