We are still amazed at the hardiness of fatsia in our climate. While I killed my first two plants, the third time was a charm as our established plant has now survived 0 degrees F with only some minimal leaf burn. Plantsman Charles Cresson is also growing this outdoors in his Philadelphia area garden...in a protected site. The woody stems are clothed with large glossy green, deeply lobed leaves. In warmer climates, fatsia may reach 15' tall, but in colder zones, 4-5' is tops. In November, the plants are topped with large alien-like spikes of white flowers, followed by impressive stalks of blue fruit.
