Mea Culpa. When I first found this exciting grass on a dry hillside in southern Georgia, I was able to collect a tiny division. I grew it out and subsequently sent it off to a grass taxonomist for identification. As it turns out, his identification of the US native E. elliottii was incorrect and, in fact, it is the South African E. chloromelas. Planted in our garden, E. chloromelas makes a 3' wide clump of narrow, powder-blue foliage. In early May, the airy but sturdy plumes arise to 3', opening like a giant tan cloud. In October, the plumes remain as nice as when they first opened...superb as a specimen or as a border subject!
