(aka: Herbertia euryandra, Alophia euryandra) If you wait until you can pronounce it, you'll miss out on a chance to try this delightful gem for the rock garden. This fascinating little irid that we first saw growing along the road in northern Argentina has proven to be one of the most prolific flowering small bulbs in our garden. The small, pleated, iris-like light green leaves compose the 15" wide clump, adorned with 1' tall spikes ending in terminal clusters of 1" blue-lavender flowers starting in May and continuing through the summer. Ennealophus thrives best in a partially sunny, well-drained location.
