Echinodorus bracteatus 'Lantau Lady' is a 2018 Plant Delights Nursery introduction, originally discovered by plantsman Alan Galloway on Hong Kong's Lantau Island. We didn't find that odd until we discovered that Echinodorus bracteatus is native to Central America and Northern South America...that's quite a one way trip. We've grown it in our bog garden since 2007, where it has thrived, forming a 6' tall specimen composed of bold, glossy green 20" long x 1' wide, plastic-textured leaves, atop sturdy stalks. The clumps are also topped with 7' tall spikes of white flowers from June to October, each followed by small plantlets, but no seed. In ten years, our patch has spread to 15' wide. Echinodorus 'Lantau Lady' is truly a spectacular marginal or full aquatic.
