(syn: D. parallelogramma A1AG-240) Dryopteris wallichiana is regarded as one of the world's most beautiful ferns and with a nearly worldwide distribution, many people have grown this gem. Almost all of the cultivated material is of Asian origin, so we are glad to offer plants from a population that we saw in Tucuman Province, Argentina. The 3' tall x 4' wide clumps were growing in a moist valley at 7,300' elevation. The dark green fronds, adorned by black scales, make these solitary rosettes real stunners. Typically this species dislikes heat, but summers in Tucuman are quite hot, so we hope this form will be more tolerant of warm summers.
