    (aka: D. filix mas 'Undulata Robusta', D. x tavelii) Perfect as a companion to the robust female fern, this naturally occurring hybrid (D. affinis x filix-mas) is native both in Europe and the US. This vigorous clumper makes a 3' wide semi-deciduous mound that is quite drought tolerant once established. In the woodland garden, the moderately lacy texture of the robust male fern can be used as a superb background to hostas.
