    (aka: Dryopteris spinulosa var. americana) This northeastern US native is a naturally-occurring but fertile hybrid between D. expansa and D. intermedia. The 2' tall, upright deciduous clump of lacy fronds makes a stunning clump for the woodland garden. A slightly moist setting seems to be the best garden conditions.
