(aka: Disporum cantoniense 'Green Giant') Disporum longistylum 'Green Giant' is a 2003 Heronswood introduction from a plant Dan received from a Japanese friend. For us, Disporum cantoniense 'Green Giant' makes a 4' tall clump of branched stems, laden with large evergreen oval leaves and topped in spring with terminal clusters of small white flowers, followed by black-blue fruit that persists all winter. Although it should be evergreen in most climates, I recommend cutting it to the ground in spring so the new flush of foliage will be fresh. The former Heronswood catalog promised 10' in height, but we think that description came after a long night of adult beverages.
