We have been amazed at the performance of this evergreen Indian selection of the typically Chinese species of fairy bells. The 3' tall, bamboo-like shoots of Disporum cantoniense arise in early spring, often with a purple tint as they emerge. Disporum cantoniense 'Indian Purple' unfurls in spring into a multi-branched clump, topped in late spring with dazzling, dark purple, bell-like flowers from a species that typically flowers white. This is truly a most unique plant that will find a home in any woodland garden.
