Frankly, in the South, we shoot dianthus to put them out of their misery, but this fine addition makes the short list of truly heat and humidity tolerant dianthus. D. 'Mountain Mist' has the most silvery foliage of any of the dianthus that we can grow. Even without flowers, the mass of foliage is gorgeous, even through the winter months. In early spring (April in NC), the clumps are topped with 1' tall lightly fragrant, ruffled flowers of medium pink. We understand that it grows well in central Florida, although flowering is sparse due to a lack of winter chilling. As with all dianthus, a well drained sunny site is best.
